Deadguy

Deadguy, a hardcore outfit from New Jersey, pairs screaming vocals with discordant guitars. Taking its name from the late comedian John Candy, the band pursued an intensely dark and somber style on tracks including "Running With Scissors," "Die With Your Mask On," and "Makeshift Atomsmasher." After the departure of its two primary songwriters—the lead singer and the guitarist—the group rebuilt by shifting second guitarist Pops to frontman duties and adding a pair of guitarists soon after issuing its debut full-length, Fixation on a Coworker, in 1995. The revised lineup went on to deliver the 1996 EP Screamin' With the Deadguy Quintet, which contained cuts such as "Human Pig" and "(Escape From) The Fake Clink," yet listeners still longed for the original ensemble’s harder-edged attack. Deadguy itself had come together in New Jersey during June 1996, drawing its founding members from the ranks of Rorschach, Lifetime, and No Escape.
