Indecision came together in 1993 when guitarists Justin Brannan and Rachel Rosen joined forces with drummer Pat Flynn, bassist Steve Bago, and vocalist Tom Sheehan, the last of whom yielded the microphone to Artie Phillie in 1998. The musicians had first crossed paths as students at a Catholic high school in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood. Local club performances occupied the early years until most nearby venues disappeared, prompting the group to embed itself in the broader New York City hardcore circuit. Steady cycles of recording and road work allowed the band to outlast many contemporaries from the same period and locale. Three albums—Unorthodox, Most Precious Blood, and To Live and Die in New York City—along with assorted singles appeared on Exit Records, each displaying the slightly metal-tinged positive hardcore that articulated anger and injustice without resorting to hateful language. Although To Live and Die in New York City introduced Artie Phillie as vocalist, it upheld the straightforward approach that defined the band’s prior releases. In 1999 the musicians moved to MIA Records for Release the Cure. While touring in 2000 the group disbanded, after which several former members launched the hardcore/metal outfit Most Precious Blood.
