Emerging in Florida toward the end of 1996, Morning Again ranked among the earliest hardcore metal outfits to adopt vegan-straight edge principles, channeling the ferocity of the mid-1980s hardcore scene through a savage death metal lens. Guitarist John Wylie cycled through multiple lineups while preserving his convictions and relentless drive during those first months. The band issued the EPs Hand of Hope and Martyr before launching an intensive touring campaign throughout 1997. Revelation Records pursued the group and issued the album As Tradition Dies Slowly the next year. Hardcore devotees and extreme metal listeners alike greeted the record with excitement, and the exhaustive road schedule earned the musicians respect from both communities. Internal tensions ultimately triggered the band’s 1999 breakup, after which the EP Fallen...The Few That Remain appeared. Eulogy Recordings assembled the initial two EPs as Hand of the Martyr for release two years later.
