Emerging from the bright, prosperous surroundings of Orange County, California, Bleeding Through forged an uncompromising strain of metalcore laced with melodic death and black metal influences. Their initial full-length, Portrait of the Goddess, arrived in 2002 and showcased a raw intensity that later releases such as This Is Love, This Is Murderous in 2004 and The Truth in 2006 expanded by incorporating stronger death-metal elements. Operations halted with a final performance in Anaheim during 2014, yet the group stunned listeners four years afterward by delivering the fresh full-length Love Will Kill All.

The lineup came together in 1999 around vocalist Brandan Schieppati, guitarists Brian Leppke and Scott Danough, bassist Ryan Wombacher, drummer Derek Youngsma, and keyboardist Marta Peterson. While neighboring Orange County acts leaned toward pop, ska, hardcore, or punk, Bleeding Through pursued a punishing aggro-deathcore approach shared by numerous American post-screamo outfits of the era. Connections to Eighteen Visions and Throwdown run through shared personnel, including Schieppati and Marc Jackson, who moved between the projects. Following the 2002 debut Portrait of the Goddess, Schieppati committed fully to Bleeding Through, prompting a deal with New Jersey’s Trustkill Records that yielded the well-received This Is Love, This Is Murderous in 2004 and The Truth in 2006.

During sessions for the subsequent record, guitarist Scott Danough departed in spring 2007 and was succeeded by Jona Weinhofen, formerly of I Killed the Prom Queen. The resulting 2008 concept album Declaration, centered on the hardships of touring, sparked an open dispute with Trustkill concerning unpaid royalties, insufficient support, and scheduling issues; this friction led the band to Oregon-based Rise Records for its self-titled sixth album in 2010 and the 2012 sequel The Great Fire. In 2013 the members declared their forthcoming tour would be the last, closing the chapter with a performance at Chain Reaction in Anaheim on August 3, 2014. Fans received another shock in March 2018 when Bleeding Through announced a new contract with SharpTone and the imminent release of Love Will Kill All, which appeared that May.
