Biography
Blending hardcore and death metal with progressive metal's exacting guitar precision, Job for a Cowboy generates an unyielding sonic force. Vocalist Jonny Davy assembled the lineup in Glendale, Arizona during 2002 with guitarists Ravi Bhadriraju and Andrew Arcurio, bassist Chad Staples, and drummer Andy Rysdam; the ensemble produced its inaugural demo CD two years later. Staples and Rysdam exited shortly afterward, prompting Brent Riggs and Elliott Sellers to assume bass and drum responsibilities. The revised configuration tracked the six-track EP Doom in 2005, which drew notice from Arizona's independent King of the Monsters imprint and prompted the label to issue the recording following the band's own initial pressing. Doom generated strong underground momentum through relentless touring, leading Metal Blade to secure the group in 2006 and re-release the EP with an added track. Arcurio departed that same year, after which Bobby Thompson entered as guitarist. While preparing songs for the debut full-length, Sellers stepped away and Jon "The Charm" Rice took over percussion. Captured amid touring commitments under producer Andy Sneap, the album Genesis appeared on Metal Blade in May 2007. Bhadriraju withdrew the next year to pursue medical studies and was succeeded by Despised Icon guitarist Al Glassman, who joined Rice for his first studio contribution on the 2009 release Ruination. Further changes arrived in 2011 when bassist Brent Riggs and guitarist Bobby Thompson exited, replaced by Nick Schendzielos of Cephalic Carnage and Tony Sannicandro; both newcomers performed on the digital-only Gloom EP and on the 2012 album Demonocracy. Rice departed in 2013, leaving session drummer Danny Walker to handle percussion on the band's fourth studio album, Sun Eater, which surfaced the following year.
