Biography
Beneath the Massacre, the technical death metal band from Montreal, formed in 2004 around vocalist Elliot Desgagnés, guitarists Christopher Bradley and Jonathan Dubeau, bassist Dennis Bradley, drummer Justin Rousselle, and keyboard player Christian Pépin during his brief involvement. Taking cues from the extreme brutality and dense intricacy developed by Canadian acts such as Cryptopsy and Neuraxis, the group appeared in 2005 with the severe Evidence of Inequity EP. Their subsequent Prosthetic Records output comprised Mechanics of Dysfunction in 2007 and Dystopia in 2008, both recorded by the streamlined lineup of Desgagnés, the Bradley brothers, and Rousselle. The same year they completed an initial U.S. headline tour supported by Arsis and Ion Dissonance, then joined the Summer Slaughter package alongside Necrophagist, Cephalic Carnage, and Cattle Decapitation. Two years later came the Marée Noire EP, followed by the full-length Incongruous in 2012. After promoting that album on Bonecrusher Fest with Carnifex, Molotov Solution, Within the Ruins, and Betraying the Martyrs, the band curtailed its road activity and stayed largely inactive until 2019, when it announced both a return to live performance and a fourth studio album. That record, Fearmonger, surfaced on Century Media in early 2020.
