Formed in Sioux City, Iowa, in 2005, the Christian metalcore outfit For Today issued their debut full-length, Ekklesia, three years later on Facedown Records. The lineup of vocalist Mattie Montgomery, guitarists Ryan Leitru and Mike Reynolds, bassist Brandon Leitru, and drummer David Morrison devoted the bulk of those early years to relentless road work, building a following through constant live appearances. Once Ekklesia arrived, 2008 became a nonstop stretch of touring and shows to support the record. The group stayed prolific, following their first release with the sophomore effort Portraits before the year ended. Breaker, their third album, arrived in 2010 and marked their initial entry on the overall album charts, while Immortal—their 2012 Razor & Tie debut—improved on that showing by reaching the Top 20. Memphis May Fire’s Matty Mullins appeared as a guest on the band’s fifth LP, Fight the Silence, released in 2014. The following year, rhythm guitarist Samuel Penner departed and was succeeded by Jim Hughes, formerly of Colossus. Now signed to Nuclear Blast Records, For Today delivered their sixth album, Wake, in October 2015.
