Haste the Day emerged in 2001 from Carmel, an Indianapolis suburb in Indiana, blending metalcore aggression with melodic hooks and lyrics rooted in Christian faith. The group maintained a steady presence on Solid State, the heavier arm of Tooth & Nail, from the mid-2000s onward, regularly landing inside the Christian Top Five while also registering on the Billboard 200 and assorted other tallies. Multiple lineup changes marked their first decade; after issuing Attack of the Wolf King in 2010 they stepped away for several years. Their 2015 return yielded both a tour and the album Coward, which drew personnel from every chapter of the band’s history. Following another extended pause the musicians reconvened in 2024 and issued the single “Burn.”

The original three-piece—guitarist and vocalist Brennan Chaulk, his brother Devin on drums, and bassist and vocalist Mike Murphy—began performing together in 2001. Six months later longtime friend Jason Barnes joined on second guitar, and after auditions the group recruited Jimmy Ryan as lead singer. Their self-released debut, That They May Know You, appeared in 2002; shortly afterward they signed with Solid State and delivered Burning Bridges in spring 2004. That year they shared stages with As I Lay Dying and Zao, then returned the following summer with When Everything Falls. Ryan announced his departure in late 2005 to marry and played his final concert with the band that December. A few months afterward Stephen Keech, previously of New Day Awakening, stepped in as vocalist. Pressure the Hinges arrived in March 2007, climbed to number three on the Christian Albums chart, and reached number 89 on the Billboard 200. Their fourth album, Dreamer, followed in 2008, peaked at number 68 on the Billboard 200, and marked the first release without guitarist Jason Barnes; Devin Chaulk exited after its completion. The remaining members then entered the studio with producer Andreas Magnusson, known for work with the Black Dahlia Murder and Sleeper, resulting in Attack of the Wolf King, which charted across multiple formats upon its 2010 release.

Continued turnover and relentless touring eventually prompted the group’s 2011 breakup announcement and farewell trek. Later that year the live recording Haste the Day vs. Haste the Day captured both early and final lineups sharing a stage at a 2010 Bloomington, Indiana performance. After three years apart the band reunited with Stephen Keech producing and members drawn from prior eras; Coward, their sixth studio album, surfaced in May 2015 and featured shared vocal duties between Keech and original singer Ryan. Despite its reception the group again went dormant until 2023, when they performed at Furnace Fest in Alabama. At that point the lineup comprised Brennan Chaulk, Mike Murphy, Stephen Keech, Dave Krysl, Scott Whalen, and Giuseppe Capolupo. They recorded new material and released the single “Burn” in October 2024.
