Biography
Cedarville, Ohio-based quintet Wolves at the Gate fuse post-hardcore and metalcore elements with an unwavering Christian perspective. Emerging in 2012 via the commercially and critically lauded Captors, the group quickly drew substantial followings across both secular and faith-based audiences.
Established in 2009, the core revolved around singer/guitarist Steve Cobucci and drummer Ryan Connelly. Early rehearsals quickly generated local performance opportunities, prompting the pair to add bassist Ben Summers, guitarist Jeremy Steckel, and singer Colin Jones, whose throaty screams offset Cobucci’s smoother delivery. Connelly soon gave way to Dave Nestor behind the kit, and that configuration produced the debut EP We Are the Ones in 2011. The heavy, technical approach paired with explicit Christian themes earned a contract with Tooth & Nail imprint Solid State Records, home to likeminded acts such as Oh, Sleeper and Fit for a King. After Nick Detty stepped in for Colin Jones and Ben Millhouse assumed drumming duties, the band issued its first full-length, Captors, in 2012; the album entered the Billboard Christian Albums chart at number seven.
Wolves at the Gate toured extensively throughout the next year before regrouping to track a follow-up. With yet another drummer change, Dylan Baxter took the seat and solidified the unit that unveiled the sophomore album VxV in June 2014. September 2016 brought the standalone single “Flickering Flame,” previewing the third studio album Types and Shadows, which arrived that November. A fresh wave of singles preceded the 2019 release of the intense and somber Eclipse.
