Gideon's music channels the unrestrained, crowd-crushing intensity of Earthmover and Snapcase, revitalizing the lumbering hardcore style from the closing years of the 1990s through infusions of punk energy and melodic metalcore, all infused with an uplifting outlook. The ensemble surfaced at the start of the 2010s and ascended to prominent standing within the post-hardcore community upon issuing their well-regarded fourth album, Cold, during 2017. Later efforts like Out of Control in 2019 and More Power. More Pain in 2023 reflected a shift toward greater heaviness and a more pronounced thrash orientation in their style.

The band originated in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, during 2008, injecting fresh vigor into the signature plodding chug associated with early releases on Victory Records and accelerating its pace. Gang vocals in balanced measure helped unify the sound, drawing the interest of Facedown Records, who inked a deal in 2011 and put out the debut full-length Costs that same year. The 2012 release Milestone, titled fittingly, represented their initial entry on Billboard rankings, reaching the upper 20 positions for both the U.S. Heatseekers and Christian Albums lists. Collaboration with noted metal producer Will Putney shaped their third album, the aggressive Calloused from 2014, which attained the fourth position on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.

Transitioning from Facedown to Equal Vision in 2017 enabled the issuance of their fourth studio album Cold, marking their biggest achievement yet. The punishing 2019 EP No Love/No One alongside the album Out of Control drove their intense sonic palette further into heavier territory. Their 2023 output, the aptly titled More Power. More Pain, blended low-tuned hardcore breakdowns with a gritty Southern edge.
