Biography
Cloudy Jane channels an assertive, playful, and outspoken brand of pop that foregrounds women’s viewpoints. Based in Germany, the vocalist first attracted widespread online attention with songs including “FU in My Head” and “Mommy Issues,” then sustained momentum through Columbia Records releases such as the duet “You Problem” and the track “Crazy Woman.”
Born Claudia Terry Verdecia in Berlin to parents of German and Cuban descent, she absorbed a wide range of recordings throughout childhood, ranging from the Beatles and the Kinks to Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. As a teenager she spent several years fronting a death-metal outfit modeled on Opeth before turning toward mainstream pop songwriting. Several tracks issued in 2019 under the name Cloudy Verdecia—a variation on the nickname “Claudi” supplied by friends—preceded her introduction as Cloudy Jane in 2020 via the single “High Waist to Hell.” Its successor, “Pretty Pills for Broken Hearts,” spread even more rapidly across social platforms, drawing listeners throughout Europe and farther afield.
Activity accelerated in 2022 when Cloudy Jane issued the singles “FU in My Head” and “Mommy Issues,” both co-written and produced by Vincent Stefansson and Valentine Glage under their TVVINS moniker. The songs amassed millions of streams and anchored that year’s Unthinkable EP. Before the year closed she had signed with Columbia Records, scoring another viral success with the self-assured kiss-off “You Problem,” a collaboration with American singer/songwriter Emlyn. Well-attended European headline tours confirmed that listeners would gather in person as readily as online, prompting further singles and EPs that included 2023’s 21st Century Princess as well as the stand-alone tracks “Red Flag” (2023) and “Crazy Woman” (2024).
