Dana Gould, the writer, actor, and standup comedian whose style merges old-school timing with twenty-first-century indie sensibilities, came into the world and grew up in Hopedale, Massachusetts, a town bearing an ironic designation. In the midst of the mid-1980s comedy boom he headed west, reaching San Francisco first and becoming the Comedy Condo’s original tenant—an apartment later leased by Ryan Stout, Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and countless other comics. After relocating to Los Angeles he accumulated frequent appearances on Letterman and Conan plus several HBO specials. Early in the 1990s he joined the regular cast of The Ben Stiller Show; in 1995 he supplied the voice of the video game character Gex. The Uproar label issued his debut CD, Fun House, in 1998, and in 2001 he launched a seven-year stint writing for The Simpsons. Shout Factory put out his second album—and first standup DVD—Let Me Put My Thoughts in You, in 2009.
