Biography
The electro-dance duo Dandi Wind formed in Vancouver around vocalist Dandelion Wind Opaine—who insists her name is genuine and describes an upbringing by hippies inside a forest cabin in central British Colombia lacking both electricity and running water—and multi-instrumentalist Szam Findlay. An art-school graduate whose experience encompasses dance and performance art, Opaine works beside Findlay, an avowed admirer of the earlier Vancouver industrial dance pioneers Skinny Puppy. Findlay’s retro-cool goth-dance rhythms paired with Opaine’s whimsical vocal approach secured the act a deal with the Vancouver imprint Bongo Beat Records, which issued the debut EP Bait the Traps in early 2005. A follow-up EP titled Nofunicity appeared next, succeeded by the first full-length album, Opaine and Findlay’s 2006 release Concrete Igloo.
