Biography
Soft Metals, the evocative synth-pop duo formed by keyboardist and programmer Ian Hicks together with singer Patricia Hall, draws from a broad range of sources that include psych-rock, shoegaze, house, techno, and soundtracks. The pair first joined forces in Portland, Oregon in early 2009 and soon became romantically involved. After inking a deal with Captured Tracks, they issued their opening EP, The Cold World Melts, in July 2010 and followed it with their self-titled debut album the next year. Having moved to Los Angeles, the duo resurfaced in 2013 with their sophomore album Lenses, which incorporated contributions from Optimo’s J.D. Twitch and placed greater emphasis on the dance-oriented dimensions of their sound.
