Dark Captain Light Captain weave textured, folk-tinged pop and rock that merges pastoral psychedelia with electronic accents. The group originated in East London during the winter of 2006, when founding members Dan Carney on guitar and vocals alongside Neil Kleiner on electronics and vocals started a string of late-night sessions centered on Kleiner’s laptop. Once the tracks reached MySpace, the pair received an invitation to appear on Seven Sisters, the debut album from German artist Milenasong. Carney and Kleiner subsequently refocused on their own endeavor, completing the roster with Giles Littleford on guitar and vocals, Chin Keeler on drums, Laura Copsey on brass and vocals, and Michael Cranny on bass and vocals. Producing atmospheric music that simultaneously recalled Elliott Smith, the Beta Band, and Stars of Track and Field, Dark Captain Light Captain released the Circles EP in August 2008 as a lead-in to their first proper album, Miracle Kicker.
