Biography
Forming a shadowy strain of psychedelic electro-rock that echoes the Raveonettes, the Kills, and Metric, the Brighton, England outfit Dark Horses unites Swedish singer and harmonica player Lisa Elle with guitarist and organist Bobby Waterson, guitarist Andy Bang, drummer Steve Ingham, bassist and keyboardist Harry Bohay-Nowell, and percussionist Tommy Chain. After only a handful of live performances, the group landed an opening slot on Kasabian’s arena trek, which quickly led to further support dates alongside Tame Impala, Black Mountain, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Dark Horses then entered the studio with Death in Vegas’ Richard Fearless at Michigan’s Key Club, where their initial sessions yielded the July 2012 Radio single containing the track “Radio Offshore,” co-written by BRMC’s Robert Levon Been. The Alone single followed in October, appearing just before the band’s debut album, Black Music, whose U.S. release came in April 2013. Subsequent road work with Beck, Sigur Rós, Kasabian, and BRMC preceded a return to the studio with Fearless; the April 2014 single “Live on Hunger” signaled the leaner, rock-focused sound of Hail Lucid State, issued that August.
