Davila 666, the seven-piece ensemble from San Juan, Puerto Rico, characterize their sound as “Menudo on drugs,” fusing the raw, Stooges-inspired energy of garage rock with intermittent bursts of melodic pop sweetness. The lineup features Sir Charles on vocals and tambourine, multi-instrumentalist AJ, guitarists and vocalists Miss Davila and Johnny Otis, drummer/guitarist/vocalist San Pablo, percussionist/vocalist Panda, and guitarist/drummer/vocalist Gigi. Their elaborately staged performances, complete with recurring themes, props, costumes, and accompanying dancers, earned them an American following during tours alongside the Black Lips and the King Khan & BBQ Show. The group’s self-titled U.S. debut appeared on In the Red Records in summer 2008. Following a relatively subdued 2009, they returned with renewed activity in 2010, issuing an EP through Rob’s House Records plus 7-inch singles on Norton—a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “She’s a Rainbow”—and Vice, the latter a split release with the Dirtbombs. In 2011, Davila 666 unveiled their second full-length, Tan Bajo, and recorded a live EP for Jack White’s Third Man Records during a U.S. tour supporting the album. By 2014 the band assembled various previously out-of-print singles and EPs into the compilation Poco Años, Muchos Daños.
