Biography
Chester Bennington, Linkin Park's vocalist, launched Dead by Sunrise in 2005 specifically to find an outlet for darker and moodier songs written during the Minutes to Midnight sessions. The project gave him space to test fresh creative directions. He brought in Amir Derakh, Ryan Shuck, Brandon Belsky, Elias Andra—musicians with whom he had already collaborated in the production team and synth pop band Julien-K—plus Anthony "Fu" Valcic. The resulting sound moved away from Linkin Park's nu-metal and Julien-K's dark electro/synth pop toward a melodic, synth-tinged strain of hard rock. Once the Minutes to Midnight touring cycle finished in 2008, the band entered the studio to record its first album while Bennington simultaneously worked on the next Linkin Park release. Out of Ashes, the group's debut, appeared on Warner Bros. in October 2009.
