The Def Squad emerged as a rap supergroup built around Redman, Keith Murray, and Erick Sermon. Their cover of the classic "Rapper's Delite" struck a commercial chord and prompted the trio to deliver their first album, El Niño, through Def Jam in 1998. Dreamworks followed with the second full-length project two years later under the title Def Squad Presents Erick Onasis.
