Leading the Cult Rap movement out of North Carolina, Deniro Farrar delivers an unflinching viewpoint on real existence through a gruff rasp and the seasoned insight of an old soul. That perspective draws equal inspiration from 2Pac and Bob Marley on one side and from Sun Tzu and Angela Davis on the other. His precisely coiled rhymes and candid portrayals of lived experience lend each track a weight and introspective depth comparable to the work of Vince Staples and Kendrick Lamar. Under the Cult Rap banner, which stresses equilibrium between body and spirit, Farrar advocates meditation, exercise, and group reading; his Cult Rap book club invites listeners to explore titles such as The Alchemist, Are Prisons Obsolete?, and Things Fall Apart. Born Qushawan Farrar in Charlotte, he first appeared in 2010 with the expansive mixtape Feel This on Black Flag Records. Two full-length projects, Destiny Altered and Kill or Be Killed, arrived alongside the Cliff of Death EP in 2012, followed the next year by The Patriarch and its swift sequel. After signing with Warner Bros., he maintained his steady pace with the 2014 album Rebirth, which included appearances by Child Actor, Lunice, Denzel Curry, and DuRu tha King. Cliff of Death II surfaced the following year, Mind of a Gemini came in 2016, and the two-part Red Book EPs sustained his thoughtful focus on societal concerns and optimism.
