Balancing cosmic psychedelic sounds with no wave angularity, Titus Andronicus guitarist Peter Feigenbaum launched his Dinowalrus recordings in 2003. The effort began as a loose side project yet gained momentum three years afterward once Feigenbaum encountered bassist Kyle Warren at a To Live and Shave in LA gathering. Drawn together by their admiration for forward-thinking groups from earlier eras—especially Can, Chrome, DNA, and PiL—the pair formed a unit devoted to droney dance music built around a drum machine and computer rig. Drummer Josh Da Costa came aboard in 2008, after which Dinowalrus launched live appearances throughout Brooklyn and cultivated attention through performances that featured instrument swapping, improvisation, and skronky thrift store electronics. Following two self-released 7" singles, Kanine Records issued the trio’s experimental debut album %, pronounced “percent,” in January of 2010.
