Indie pop duo Donovan Blanc traces its origins to the earlier project Honeydrum, the recording endeavor of Joseph Black and Raymond Schwab based in New Brunswick, New Jersey. That group produced nine EPs from 2011 through 2013. As the period wound down, their creative direction grew more defined, shifting toward the lush, Mellotron- and guitar-led indie pop that would mark Black and Schwab’s subsequent work as Donovan Blanc. Setting aside the experimental and abstract D.I.Y. pop of their Honeydrum output, the duo instead pursued a singer/songwriter approach with clear ties to the wistful guitar pop of Real Estate and the warm neo-psych of Foxygen. In early 2014 they joined the roster of prominent Brooklyn indie Captured Tracks, which issued their self-titled debut LP that June.
