Originating from Manchester, Jamaica, Dwight Pinkney—widely recognized in many circles as Brother Dee—launched his reggae career by assembling the Sharks in 1965. After relocating to Kingston during childhood and remaining with his mother until his teenage years, he formed that group upon turning 18 and took up duties as the resident band at a hotel. The Sharks also began making regular stops at the celebrated Studio One facility in Kingston, supplying instrumental support for numerous hit-making reggae acts on their singles. Once the ensemble disbanded, Pinkney directed his efforts toward groups including Zap-Pow and Roots Radics, both of which established him as a fixture on the Jamaican music scene. He earned multiple awards for the instrumental reggae/jazz album Jamaican Memories by the Score and released its follow-up, More Memories, in 2002.
