Biography
In 1997 the offbeat post-grunge quartet Dynamite Hack assembled in Austin, TX, choosing its name from a Caddyshack line. Mark Morris (vocals/guitar), Chad Robinson (vocals/bass), Mike Vlahakis (guitar), and Chase Scott (drums) drew cues from Weezer, Pavement, Jawbreaker, and the Barenaked Ladies. The Barenaked Ladies influence surfaced most clearly on the group’s acoustic folk-rock cover of N.W.A.’s “Boyz ’N tha Hood,” a regional radio hit across the Austin/Dallas market in 1999. After that breakthrough the band cut its full-length debut, Superfast, issued locally in January 2000 and then remixed by Universal for national release that summer.
