Following the breakup of Korea Girl, Tobin Mori assembled a compact lineup in San Francisco to launch the project Ee. Recording sessions for the group’s first album, Ramadan, began on Currycore Records during autumn 1999. Internal creative conflicts prompted a sweeping overhaul of the roster by spring 2000, when bassist Che Chou and drummer Peter Nguyen joined the fold. An alumnus of Total Shutdown, Nguyen supplied a fuller, more explosive dynamic. Keyboardist and lead guitarist Soo-young Park, formerly the frontwoman of Chicago’s Seam, relocated to San Francisco and completed the revised configuration. After crisscrossing the United States, the band issued the four-song EP Tinyspot through Asian Man Records in April 2002, then embarked on a subsequent three-week American trek. Its sophomore full-length, For 100 We Try Harder, arrived on the same label the following autumn.
