Biography
Elisa Fiorillo, a dance vocalist born in Philadelphia to a musical household where her mother performed as a singer and her father worked as a pianist and music professor, achieved a measure of commercial success in the late 1980s following Madonna's rise. Prior to entering her teenage years, she lent her voice to numerous advertising jingles. Relocating to California alongside her mother in 1985, she claimed victory on the talent competition Star Search. Her signing with Chrysalis Records paved the way for an initial chart entry in late 1987 through the duet "Who Found Who," recorded with DJ and producer John "Jellybean" Benitez. This track peaked at number 16 on the pop listings while reaching the dance Top Ten. Her 1988 self-titled debut album, crafted under Benitez's production guidance, followed, yet despite extensive touring in support, it lingered on the album charts for just six weeks without securing another significant success.
The 1989 release I Am saw her collaborating at Prince's Paisley Park studio under producer David Z. Her solo peak arrived with "On the Way Up," which ascended to the pop Top 40 and resonated strongly in club environments. She supplied backing vocals across multiple selections from Prince's film soundtracks Graffiti Bridge and Batman. Additional recording work involved David Cassidy, Billie Myers, and Dave Koz, complemented by jingle assignments for Hawaiian Punch fruit drink and the Fox television network. During 2000, Fiorillo joined Australian pop band Savage Garden as a backing singer for their global tour, and she released Undecided, an album reflecting her jazz inclinations.
