Industrial rock outfit Exhaust welcomed the distinctive percussion approach of Aidan Girt, previously a member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, onto its second full-length release, a self-titled album. The band surfaced in Montreal amid the mid-'90s, staging multiple charged live sets and issuing a vinyl single during that period. Exhaust subsequently stepped away from the endeavor, restricting activity to infrequent shows as its members focused on separate work. The musicians reconvened in 2001, retreating for a month to a log cabin where they captured an album on tape. A brief tour came before the material reached the public, leaving Enregistreur as the outcome of that isolated studio session.
