Fato

Enrique Guzmán Yáñez, who records as Fato, displayed songwriting and vocal ability from early childhood, opening his career with the song "El Príncipe Pobre" before claiming the top prize at the Viña del Mar festival in 1994 for "El Monstruo." A self-titled album appeared the same year. Work composing material for leading Latin performers prompted him to develop his own hybrid he named alternative mariachi, fusing Latin pop with Mexican traditional forms. That approach shaped the music on his next album, Terrenal, which arrived in 2001.
