Biography
An acclaimed Portuguese alternative pop singer and songwriter, Rita Redshoes launched her solo career with the Top Ten charting album Golden Era in 2008. Born Rita Pereira in Loures, Portugal, she first gained attention in the late 1990s as the vocalist for Atomic Bees. The band put out Love Noises and Kisses in 2000 and performed as openers for the Cranberries in Lisbon prior to disbanding. In the years that followed, Rita served as pianist for David Fonseca during his 2003 tour and appeared on his 2006 album Our Hearts Will Beat as One, specifically on the song "Hold Still." Her debut full-length release under the Rita Redshoes moniker, Golden Era, achieved Top Ten status on the Portuguese albums chart and yielded several successful singles such as "Hey Tom," "Dream on Girl," "The Beginning Song," and "Chose Love," in addition to securing her a nomination for Best Portuguese Act at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. Rita handled production duties together with Nélson Carvalho, enlisting Filipe Monteiro on guitar and keyboards, Nuno Simões on bass, and Sérgio Nascimento on drums.
