Biography
Deolinda, a Portuguese fado ensemble, takes its name from the central figure of the band’s first conceptual album, Canção ao Lado (“The Song Next Door”). The character is portrayed as a recluse who remains inside her Lisbon apartment and observes the outside world through her window. Guitarist Pedro da Silva Martins composed the material and, along with singer Ana Bacalhau, guitarist Luis José Martins, and acoustic bass player Zé Pedro Leitão, formed the group in Lisbon in 2006. Sessions for the album occurred in late 2007 and early 2008; it appeared in Portugal at the end of 2008 and reached platinum sales. Four Quarters Entertainment issued Canção ao Lado in the U.S. on July 28, 2009.
