David Fonseca

David Fonseca stands among the most celebrated and influential figures in Portuguese rock, having first captured widespread attention as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the multi-platinum group Silence 4. Between the band’s 1998 debut release Silence Becomes It and its 2001 tour, Silence 4 shattered existing benchmarks for live attendance and record sales across Portugal. The abrupt decision to “freeze” activities in 2002 stunned local rock followers yet opened the door for Fonseca to pursue independent projects, collaborate with fresh musicians, and explore unfamiliar sonic directions. Teaming once more with Mário Barreiros, the producer long associated with Silence 4, he completed his first solo effort, Sing Me Something New. Issued in 2003, the album featured the single “Someone That Cannot Love,” which premiered on Portuguese radio through a simultaneous broadcast on 150 stations at midnight on March 10 that year.
