Biography
Born on January 8, 1976, in Coimbra, Portuguese singer and songwriter André Sardet showed an early pull toward crafting songs, quickly mastering guitar and vocals through instinctive talent. Although group performances throughout his teenage years offered a temporary channel for his musical drive, the urge for deeper personal expression soon took over. With a sufficient body of original work in hand, he moved ahead to produce his first solo effort. Issued in 1996, the debut album Imagens contained the single “O Azul do Ceu,” which achieved strong national radio play. Two years later came Agitar Antes de Usar, introduced by the track “Perto, Mais Perto,” after which Sardet entered an extended stretch without new releases. He devoted those intervening years to travel and study, carefully shaping the songs that would follow. His 2002 self-titled autobiographical album included guest appearances by Portuguese figures Rui Veloso, Luis Represas, and Mafalda Veiga. To mark ten years in music, Sardet released his first entirely acoustic project, Acústico, in 2006; recorded live at Coimbra’s Teatro Academico de Gil Vicente, the album surpassed 120,000 copies sold and confirmed his broad popularity across the country.
