Biography
Fine Place emerged as a Brooklyn-rooted duo project blending dystopian electronic textures with post-punk edges, assembled by Frankie Rose and Matthew Hord. Their first full-length effort, This New Heaven, arrived in 2021 and centers on glacial, luminous synth layers alongside vocals steeped in reverb.
Frankie Rose, previously tied to Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, Beverly, and Dum Dum Girls, shifted her focus from indie pop and garage rock toward new wave and synth pop through her contributions to Frankie Rose and the Outs as well as her own solo releases. Matthew Hord, meanwhile, had logged time across multiple garage punk and noise-rock outfits such as Heavy Times, Running, and Pop. 1280. Once Hord relocated from Chicago to New York, the pair elected to collaborate, pursuing sonic avenues distinct from their earlier endeavors. Drawing on '80s goth rock and post-punk, they crafted atmospheric, synth-led compositions built around drum machines and treated vocals. Night School issued Fine Place's debut album, This New Heaven, in 2021.
