Not to be mistaken for the Journey tribute act called Frontiers, Frontier(s) formed as an indie rock outfit based in Louisville, Kentucky, built around emo trailblazer Chris Higdon. Higdon had already shaped the city’s explosive post-hardcore community through his frontman role in Elliott and Falling Forward, where his contributions helped codify the scene’s jagged, emotionally charged style. Still driven to create, he joined forces in 2008 with guitarist Matthew Wieder, bassist Bryan Todd, and drummer Eagle Berber to launch Frontier(s). Favoring a leaner and more direct take on the style, the group channels the unvarnished immediacy of mid-'90s emo rather than leaning on screamo histrionics or dense layers of metallic riffing that define much contemporary work in the field. The four-piece issued its first full-length, There Will Be No Miracles Here, via Arena Rock Recordings in 2010.
