Lars Sandberg, recording under the Funk D'Void name on the techno side of tech-house, invigorated Glasgow's thriving techno community in the mid-'90s through releases on Soma Recordings, the imprint run by local figures Slam. His entry into DJing came in the mid-'80s when he spun hip-hop and house records throughout Glasgow, and he later moved into production out of a desire to experience his own material on the floor. The Funk D'Void alias itself paid homage to George Clinton, whose P-Funk extravaganzas regularly showcased the mythical Scrooge figure Sir Nose d'Void of Funk, a character always compelled to surrender by show's end. Once linked to Soma via the 1995 single "Jack Me Off," additional cuts such as "Soul Man" and "Bad Coffee" quickly found favor in clubs. Sandberg issued his first Funk D'Void album, Technoir, on the same label in 1997. His parallel Chaser venture alongside Nigel Hayes generated separate momentum with the Soma release Game On. Under yet another moniker, United States of Sound, he placed two singles on the Bomber imprint. The follow-up Funk D'Void long-player, Imitate, surfaced in late 2000.
