Biography
Aril Brikha, a producer based in Sweden yet born in Iran, issues his recordings through a Detroit imprint. His widely separated roots have naturally drawn an audience spanning equally varied tastes, from jazzy house and stripped-down Detroit techno to more exploratory music meant for attentive listening. Born in Teheran, Brikha relocated to Sweden when he was three. Following early releases on the Swedish imprints Plump, Dunkla, and Placktown Sounds, he forwarded a demo to Transmat Records in Detroit, the label run by techno pioneer Derrick May. During the middle of 1998 he issued The Art of Vengeance EP on Fragile, a sub-label of Transmat. The record drew acclaim within Detroit’s scene and secured Brikha a featured place on the revived Transmat compilation Time: Space. His first album, Deeparture in Time from 1999, marked Transmat’s initial full-length project devoted to one artist.
