Having grown up in Minneapolis, Georgio demonstrates proficiency across multiple instruments while echoing the style of Prince, who counts among his principal musical inspirations. He found success in the middle of the 1980s with funk-inflected dance tracks such as "Tina Cherry" and "Lover's Lane." Although his strikingly attractive appearance attracted a devoted female following, his outsized ego and pointed criticisms of the artistry of both Prince and Michael Jackson alienated disc jockeys.
