Biography
Girl on Fire came together in Seattle, Washington during 2007, blending the heavier textures of modern metalcore and djent with earlier pop-leaning rock influences. Vocalist Austin Held, guitarist Nick McMahon, and percussionist Harry MacDonald first connected while employed at the same clothing retailer, and after several months of informal rehearsals the three-piece expanded into a quartet upon meeting bassist Josh Mouser. Following an extended stretch of club performances across the Pacific Northwest, the band gained wider notice by winning an Ernie Ball-sponsored contest for unsigned acts, which earned them a slot on the Seattle stop of the Vans Warped Tour. In 2009 they entered the studio with producer WiL Francis, whose involvement drew the interest of Hollywood Waste; the label and promotion company offered the group a recording contract in 2011. That September the label issued the Francis-produced EP Revenge, after which Girl on Fire launched an initial round of national touring. For these shows the band recruited second guitarist Nicholas Wiggins, previously of Aiden, who joined as a permanent member in July 2013. Several months later the quartet delivered its debut full-length, Not Broken, recorded under Jay Baumgardner and issued through Century Media, the partner label of Hollywood Waste.
