Mories, born Maurice de Jong, operates under the experimental black metal alias Gnaw Their Tongues, a Netherlands-based project whose title derives from a biblical passage. The outfit issued its debut full-length CD, Spit at Me and Wreak Havoc on My Flesh, in 2006, roughly twelve months after its inception. Like many solo black metal and noise endeavors, the project maintained a high volume of releases across the subsequent two years and beyond, encompassing numerous EPs alongside occasional splits and additional long-players. Following the opening album, several EPs appeared before the arrival of the second full-length, Reeking Pained and Shuddering, in 2007; that same year also brought two further EPs and the Crucial Blast-issued An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood. During 2008 Gnaw Their Tongues produced two split albums—one each with Constructing Enochian Temples, Mary Magdalene, and Narcosa—plus the EPs Devotion and For All Slaves...A Song of False Hope, while simultaneously unveiling a remastered and re-edited edition of its debut. All the Dread Magnificence of Perversity emerged in 2009, after which the comparatively lighter and more orchestral L'Arrivée de la Terne Mort Triomphante surfaced in 2010. Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus, released in 2011, marked a return to the direct and aggressive style of earlier work, a direction echoed on 2012’s Eschatological Scatology and 2015’s Abyss of Longing Throats. The project’s thirteenth studio album, Hymns for the Broken, appeared in 2017.
