Biography
Altar of Plagues fuses the intense, suffocating eruptions characteristic of black metal alongside the atmospheric qualities of post-metal, thereby pushing the boundaries of these already intense musical styles. Originating from Cork, Ireland, this quartet adeptly merges elements from both styles by incorporating subdued and expansive passages within their compositions, which interrupt the dense barrages of rapid drumming and sharp guitar work. Their initial album arrived in 2009 under the title White Tomb via the Profound Lore label. In 2010, they inked a deal with Candlelight Records, after which they exposed American audiences to their dark sonic palette during a month-long series of performances. Their sophomore effort, Mammal, emerged in 2011 and featured a more expansive, innovative approach.
