Full of Hell formed as an American power-violence outfit whose sonic palette stretches across ferocious grindcore and crushing sludge metal, incorporating elements of experimental noise along the way. The ensemble, rooted in central Pennsylvania and Ocean City, Maryland, put out its initial full-length record, Roots of Earth Are Consuming My Home, in 2011. Sonic malevolence continued on later releases such as Trumpeting Ecstasy in 2013 and Garden of Burning Apparitions in 2021, plus joint projects with Merzbow, the Body, Primitive Man, and Nothing.

Dylan Walker (vocals, electronics), Spencer Hazard (guitar), David Bland (drums), and Brandon Brown (vocals, bass) established the group in 2009. Their earliest output arrived via the sludge-leaning 7" EP The Inevitable Fear of Existence on Get This Right Records in 2010. The same label issued a split EP with German band Goldust in early 2011. Experimental tendencies surfaced on the cassette FOH Noise, inaugurating an ongoing series. A389 Recordings released the full-length debut Roots of Earth Are Consuming My Home in August 2011. Further noise cassettes and split 7"s followed, including those with Code Orange Kids, the Guilt Øf…, and Calm the Fire.

Rudiments of Mutilation, the second album, appeared on A389 Recordings in 2013. Profile expansion occurred after a full-length collaboration with Japanese noise legend Merzbow emerged on Canadian metal label Profound Lore Records in 2014. Brown exited in 2015, with Sam DiGristine assuming bass duties. Bad Teeth Recordings put out the 7" EP Amber Mote in the Black Vault, which contained a cover of the Melvins' "Oven," in early 2016. Neurot Recordings issued the collaborative EP One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache with the Body in March of that year.

Profound Lore delivered the next studio album, Trumpeting Ecstacy, in May 2017. Thrill Jockey followed later that year with Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light, a second collaboration with the Body. After signing with Relapse Records in 2018, Full of Hell reunited with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge) for the 2019 recording of Weeping Choir. The fifth full-length, Garden of Burning Apparitions, arrived in 2021 and presented an unrelenting amalgam of hardcore, grind, and death metal. The brief EP Aurora Leaking from an Open Wound appeared in 2022, followed in 2023 by Suffocating Hallucination with Primitive Man and When No Birds Sang with Nothing.
