Biography
Singapore-based grindcore outfit Wormrot initially concentrated their efforts on short-form releases, issuing the EPs Dead in 2007 and Bastardphobic in 2008, prior to delivering their debut full-length Abuse in 2009, a blistering collection comprising 23 tracks compressed into just 22 minutes. This ferocious effort caught the ear of Earache Records, prompting a global re-release in 2010. Although earlier configurations featured a bassist, the group opted to proceed without one, emulating Pig Destroyer with a trio lineup of Arif on vocals, Rasyid handling guitar duties, and Fitri on drums. Their follow-up effort arrived in 2011 as Dirge, marking their inaugural recording for Earache and shifting toward a crustier punk aesthetic by dialing back metallic elements. Subsequent to promoting the record on the road, the band entered a three-year period of inactivity while persisting in their compositional endeavors. In the midst of this break, Fitri disappeared and was subsequently let go, with Vijesh Ghariwala stepping in as the new drummer. Bolstered by this personnel change, Wormrot resurfaced in 2016 via their third album Voices, which represented a significant advancement in both compositional sophistication and sonic quality.
