London's guitar-free trio Golden Silvers came together in 2007 as an eclectic unit built around vocalist and keyboardist Gwylim Gold, bassist Ben Moorhouse, and drummer Alexis Nunez. Gold and Nunez, already familiar from earlier collaborations, recruited Moorhouse—normally a guitarist—to anchor the rhythm section. The resulting danceable indie rock drew from sources as varied as the Beach Boys and Super Furry Animals on one end and David Bowie and Kraftwerk on the other. Early live appearances were supplemented by Bronze Club, the monthly night at which the band both deejayed and performed. After capturing the 2008 Glastonbury Unsigned prize and appearing on four bills at that year’s festival, the group issued its debut single “Arrows of Eros” on the Young and Lost label. A series of support dates with the Mystery Jets preceded the fall release of the “Magic Touch/Another Universe” single on the band’s own Bronze Records imprint. Golden Silvers then signed with XL, devoting the remainder of 2008 to tracking their first album. Their initial XL output, the new wave-worshipping single “True Romance,” surfaced in spring 2009, followed that summer by the full-length True Romance.
