Golden Teacher

Formed in Glasgow, Scotland, Golden Teacher brought together brothers Laurie and Oliver Pitt, previously of Ultimate Thrush, with Richard McMaster and Sam Bellacosa, formerly of Silk Cut. The lineup later expanded to include vocalists Cassie Ezeji, aka Cassie Ojay, and Charles Lavenac of Blue Sabbath Black Fiji. The sextet pushes the outer limits of post-disco hybrids by drawing on left-field disco, post-punk, free improvisation, dub, dancehall, and traditional Ghanaian music. Optimo Music served as the group's initial home, issuing Bells from the Deep End, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, and Party People/Love across 2013 and 2014. During that span Akashic also released the sixty-minute cassette GDDB. After the 2015 album Golden Teacher Meets Dennis "Dubmaster" Bovell at the Green Door, the band started its own imprint and debuted with Sauchiehall Dancehall, highlighted by the warped, clattering "Shatter." Raveinstigator appeared on Sounds of the Universe in 2016, followed in 2017 by the self-released album No Luscious Life.
