Biography
Guy Chambers has demonstrated his value as a versatile collaborator through partnerships ranging from the brash swagger of Robbie Williams to the refined expressiveness of Andrea Bocelli. Having completed his composition training in 1985 at the London Guildhall School of Music, he first gained touring experience alongside Julian Cope. Subsequent road work with the Waterboys led to a further move when Karl Wallinger departed to launch World Party, prompting Chambers to contribute songwriting to the group’s 1993 release Bang!
From 1993 to 1995 his own project the Lemon Trees persisted without major traction before disbanding, returning him to behind-the-scenes work, now alongside more prominent names. Songwriting assignments for Cathy Dennis and Bryan Adams opened doors within mainstream pop and eventually connected him with Robbie Williams. Chambers wrote, produced, and performed on multiple instruments across Williams’s first five albums, a run that achieved 30 million units in worldwide sales and earned Chambers three Ivor Novello awards plus the Q magazine Classic Songwriter award. Additional writing and production credits followed for Texas, Andrea Bocelli, Hilary Duff, Ryan Cabrera, and Diana Ross, along with soundtrack contributions to Bridget Jones’ Diary, Finding Nemo, and Love Actually.
Chambers matched that level of involvement on Brian McFadden’s 2004 debut solo album Irish Son while also working that same year with Natasha Bedingfield, Delta Goodrem, and Beverley Knight. In 2005 he served as musical director for the Murrayfield, Edinburgh stage of the Live 8 benefit concert and supplied material to Charlotte Church’s pop debut Tissues and Issues, Jamie Cullum’s Catching Tales, and the television series Rockstar INXS.
