Biography
In 1991, longtime friends Corin Tucker and Tracy Sawyer launched the pioneering riot-grrrl duo Heavens to Betsy after beginning to collaborate musically as students at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, with both originating from the Eugene, OR region; Tucker served as singer and guitarist while Sawyer handled drums. Various tracks on compilations came first, leading to the Kill Rock Stars single "These Monsters Are Real" and then the 1994 LP Calculated, after which the Chainsaw label seven-inch "Direction" appeared and the band split, though Tucker would later achieve widespread recognition as the leader of Sleater-Kinney.
