Hermano

Hermano stands out chiefly as a short-lived side effort rather than an ongoing ensemble, largely because it spotlighted vocalist John Garcia, already celebrated through his work with Kyuss. At the close of the 1990s, Garcia was simultaneously laying down tracks with Unida, an overlap that lent the project much of its distinctive flavor, yet the other participants brought considerable pedigrees of their own: bassist David Angstrom, previously active in Supafuzz and Black Cat Bone; drummer Steve Earle, known from Afghan Whigs; and guitarists Mike Callahan of Disengaged alongside Dandy Brown from Orquesta del Desierto. Eight songs constituted the group’s total recorded material, though several years passed before Tee Pee Records issued them as the album Only a Suggestion in 2002.
