Biography
The bouncy pop group Hope 7 features singer Kristi McClave, guitarist Dave Noble, bassist Chevy Martinez, and drummer Ricky Rodriguez. From the age of six McClave performed as a vocalist, and in her early teens she started trying out for parts in musicals; at one such audition producer Rodney Jerkins singled her out to front his new girl group, the 3Gs. Persistent difficulties in assembling the remaining members led to the 3Gs’ dissolution. McClave kept collaborating with several producers originally tied to that project, and the team chose to pursue a more rock-oriented sound. She placed one song on the Cheetah Girls soundtrack and another on the Legally Blonde 2 soundtrack, the latter released under the Hope 7 name while the band’s roster was still incomplete. By early 2004 Noble, Martinez, and Rodriguez had come aboard, allowing Hope 7 to begin performing and recording in earnest. That year brought a tour with the ATV pro volleyball tournament and the single “I Want Everything,” which also appeared on the Sleepover soundtrack; later in 2004 the band issued another single, Breakthrough.
