Biography
Horacio Guarany, the Argentinean singer and songwriter, departed his childhood home in Alto Verde at seventeen in search of a foothold within the local music world. Once settled in Buenos Aires, he performed regularly at modest venues until a recording opportunity finally arrived in 1957. The self-titled album was succeeded the following year by Folklore De Gala. In 1961 he became one of the earliest participants in Cordoba's National Folkloric Festival. Over the ensuing years Guarany strengthened his standing as a musician while also moving into acting, appearing first in the 1972 film Si Se Calla El Cantor and then in 1974's La Vuelta. Following a period in Spain, he came back to Argentina in 1978 and resumed touring, earning praise for his dedication to elevating Argentinean folklore. Demonstrating additional creative dimensions, between 1992 and 1993 he devoted himself to composing the works Las Cartas Del Silencio, El Loco De La Guerra, and Sapucay.
