Biography
The punishing hard rock trio Hound, based in Philly and equally at ease in denim or leather, excels at merging greasy stoner rock with NWOBHM-inspired proto-metal. Their bluesy swagger, relentless riffage, and raw power bring to mind Groundhogs, Motörhead, and Black Sabbath. Perry Shall, serving as frontman, guitarist, and visual artist, launched the group in 2013; over the subsequent years Hound has drawn on a rotating lineup that has featured bassists Mike Klein and Pat Hickey plus drummers Chris Wilson of Ted Leo & the Pharmacists and Brendan Graham. The band put out its debut long-player, Out of Time, in 2014, then delivered the follow-up effort Out of Space the next year. Their third studio long-player, Born Under 76, appeared in 2017.
